The US Department of Health and Human Services recently unveiled a Global Health Strategy that places its domestic mission in a broader context. The new document, which is intended to guide the department’s work through 2015, outlines three major goals:
- Protect and promote the health and well-being of Americans through global health action
- Provide leadership and technical expertise in science, policy, programs, and practice to improve global health
- Work in concert with interagency partners to advance US interests in international diplomacy, development, and security through global health action
These goals are further supported by specific objectives and priorities, many of which highlight the need for research to improve health and combat public health threats that reach across international boundaries. More information is available at GlobalHealth.gov.
