It’s that time of year again, when the good folks at NIH are tidying up their FY2013 extramural award data. They published NOT-OD-13-117 last week encouraging institutional officials to review their award data in the RePORT system and submit any corrections by Friday, Oct. 4, 2013.
The process by which the Data Quality folks at NIH aggregate institutional awards is imperfect. They do their best by looking at past data and institutional websites, but despite their best efforts the results sometimes need correcting. Some day, the folks at NIH will have the time and resources to allow institutions to define their own institutional hierarchy and then this will be less of an issue. Until then, its a good idea to look at your institutional data periodically to ensure that everything is as you would want it to be reported.
