With the next Australian Federal Election scheduled for 14 September 2013, Universities Australia under the banner of A Smarter Australia have released a policy advice document for an incoming government.
Central to the advice is planning for a long-term, sustainable funding model for national research infrastructure and securing future grant and fellowship programs.
Additionally, reducing the regulatory burden placed on the university sector so more time can be spent doing research.
These key points are a part of a five-point higher education plan that includes:
- Increasing Australians’ participation at university
- Expanding the global engagement of universities
- Supporting Australia’s research effort
- Ensuring sustainable and targeted investment
- Reducing red tape
