NIH Salary Cap – Reduced to Exec Level II

The US Congress passed an omnibus bill to fund remaining government departments including the NIH late last week and over the weekend. In the final bill, the NIH salary cap was set at Executive Level II, currently $179,700. This represents a reduction of $20,000 per year from the Exec. Level I limit, which the cap has been pegged to for the past decade. (See Section 203 in the bill.)

Previous versions of the budget leading up to this final bill passage had varied between setting the cap at Executive Level II or the even lower Executive Level III.
