A letter published in The Lancet on January 7, 2012, questions whether independent research is being compromised by pharmaceutical companies’ reluctance (and sometimes, outright refusal) to provide placebos for use in clinical trials that are not under the companies’ control. The authors say this should be a legal obligation.
