Changes Coming in HIV Research

The US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) has announced a program to restructure its HIV trials networks. The awards currently funding those networks are due to expire over the next two years. Meanwhile, the Forum for Collaborative HIV Research is recommending a different approach for Phase III trials of new antiretroviral therapies. In a paper published last week in the journal AIDS, the organization proposes replacing the current superiority/non-inferiority model with a series of shorter investigations.
